They "think" it's a GIRL!!!!

Lucas and I went in today for our sequential screening (genetic testing that includes a sonogram & some blood work). We really just wanted to see the baby and make sure it had arms and legs this time. Well...our little blob has matured nicely!

When we first saw the baby it had its hands up by its face and its legs were crossed. The baby measured at 57 millimeters which is in line with our January 4th due date. Based on the ultrasound the baby doesn't have Down Syndrome and we're low risk for other birth defects but will hear more if anything comes up in the blood work in a week or so (cross your fingers we won't hear from them). AND.....although it's still early and there's no external sex organs the dr and tech both agreed that it's a GIRL!!!!!!! They look at some lines down near that area and can tell based on which direction the lines are facing. The dr said it's about 90% sure. I'm going to start buying pink (and save the receipts just in case).

Ultrasounds are so amazing....we saw the heart beating, the stomach, kidneys, and blood flow!

When the dr was looking at her she started bouncing up and down. She did it about 5 times and was so funny to watch....I guess she already has daddy's energy!

Egg Salad Craving

So my husband laughed really hard at me last night for craving and making egg salad sandwiches. I don't know...I just wanted one! He said, "I've been with you for 5 years and have never seen you eat an egg salad sandwich!" It's true...I don't remember having one in years but boy was it good! I remember my parents making them when I was a kid. The baby wants what the baby wants!

The Heart's Still a Tickin'

We have a monthly check-up today and overall it was pretty uneventful....just a little chat with the midwife and scolding me for my diet choices :( We did get to hear the heartbeat again. Of course I was still worried before the appointment, "What if they can't hear the heartbeat?" It took the midwife what seemed like a lifetime to find it and after lots of praying while I was laying there. She started on the left side of my belly and then worked her way to the right where she finally landed on it....that beautiful wooshing sound :)

I guess the baby isn't a blob anymore...we hope not. We'll get to see the baby again in a few weeks, on June 23rd when we go in for our sequential screening (testing for genetic disorders). Some moms have said they found out the sex of their baby at this appointment but we'll just have to see.

I've been feeling better already...not as nauseous and getting some energy back. Hopefully it's all returned after this first trimester ends in a few weeks.

Lucas and I have started working on the house. We have a lot to do to get rid of our gameroom to make it an office/sitting/play area and we'll put the nursery back where the office is in the small back bedroom. These projects probably won't get done until the day before the baby arrives :) As long as they get done then I'll be happy!

Sorry there's nothing more exciting to report but did want to fill you in on our coasting point. We're just letting the baby grow and develop now :) Til next time....Chao!

Lucas's Mom's Mother's Day

Here's a pic showing how we told Lucas's mom, Judy, that we were expecting on Mother's Day weekend. She called us crying!!!

Just wait til I upload the video of us telling MY mom...fun stuff :)

New and Still Ironic Due Date!

So Lucas and I went for my first sonogram and instead of seeing a peanut......we saw a Beautiful BLOB! I'm not as far along as they expected - only 7 weeks, 4 days instead of 9. Apparently a lot can happen in 1.5 weeks :)

We did hear the whooshing heartbeat which is such a miracle. I know all of you moms and dads out there already know this, but there's nothing better and more amazing than hearing that sound. Lucas and I finally realize that it's REAL now!

So on the funny/ironic note: With me not being as far along I no longer have a Christmas Day due date but instead it's the day that joins Lucas and I...January 4th. For those of you who don't know Lucas's birthday is January 3rd and mine is January 5th! How ironic to go from Christmas to the day between our birthdays. God definitely has a sense of humor.

On the downside we may not be able to claim the baby on 2009 taxes but on the upside Lucas is now claiming this child as his own since the dates make more sense for when he thinks we conceived. Sorry everyone...I know that's too much info but I find it hysterical. He can't blame the mailman anymore :)

Thoughtful Gifts!

I was so excited tonight to open a package received in the mail from my Aunt Debra and Grandmother. It contained a sweet card and nursery rhyme books....many of the same I loved when I was little. Those two women made me feel so special as a child and instilled in me such a sense of pride! I hope to pass that on to my baby :)

Aunt Debra and Grandmother - Thank you and I love you!

We're pregnant!

We found out May 4th that we're expecting a baby! After a little scare a few months before, this news was amazing and exciting for both Lucas and I. Lucas will tell you that I'm actually getting my wish of having a baby before I'm 30th...by just a few days most likely. I would say to Lucas....it's about time! :)

We had our first appointment Friday, May 8th and so far so good. The biggest surprise was our due date...CHRISTMAS DAY! We go this Friday to see the baby for the first time on a sonogram...our little peanut. The due date will probably change a bit at that point once they see how big or small the baby is.

Being 8 weeks along I've started feeling some nauseousness but haven't been sick sick yet...knock on wood. It's very uncomfortable though and I've found that eating constantly throughout the day is a big challenge...and eating healthy. I better get used to it.

Everyone already asks: "Do you want a boy or a girl?" We don't care AT ALL! We just want a healthy little perfect baby and hopefully that's what God will give us :)

This initial post is probably a little boring and most of you have already heard this news but I'll keep posting and putting up pictures and any other info that we find out along our journey!!
